  1. You mention an important point about future research needing to focus motivational influences and their impact in the online environment, Sharee. After all of the research is done to analyze the differences in graduation rates in online schools as compared to non-online schools, the most important impact would be realized if further studies were performed to investigate the factors influencing students to drop out or complete school. With the data starting to show that completion rates are actually falling as enrollment increases in online settings, this information could help to reverse this trend if it could be used to train and education teachers in order to better serve the students. As we move forward in the development of online education and its implementation in K-12 settings, I agree that educators are going to have to reflect on their role in motivating students in different ways and being innovative in order to prepare them for success.

I wish you all the best in your future endeavors!

  2. I think this was the perfect way to end our collaborative research. We worked really hard on this and it would be very exciting to actually complete this research. I am very interested to learn how we could make improvements to K-12 online education in order to see fewer students dropping out. I definitely agree that professional development is highly important to pre-service and in-service teachers so they do understand what is at stake in being an online teacher. Maybe this could be the next step after completing research and seeing trends, developing a PD course that helps prepare teachers for an online teaching position. Thanks for a great 8 weeks! All the best!
